Shirley’s accomplishments in life are as wife, mother, grandmother, and librarian of Grace Lutheran School. She began her career at Grace as a grandmother-volunteer of her two grandchildren when her daughter enrolled the boys at Grace. Mrs. Graham was asked to take charge of the library in 1997, and since then has been able to improve the library in many ways, especially by quadrupling the number of books on the shelves. Shirley inaugurated the Accelerated Reader program used by teachers and students. She delights in helping students find books that catch their attention and help them enjoy reading. Shirley believes the Lord led her and her family to Grace and that He meant for her to try and help students grow in their reading, their most valuable tool in their education.
Shirley hails from Akron, Ohio, where she was born and met and married her husband, James Graham, in 1952. In 1958 Mr. Graham’s career with Convair brought the family to California where he worked on many of the space programs at General Dynamics while Shirley stayed home and raised their three children—Daniel, Darel, and Lucinda. They settled in Escondido, eventually, to be closer to their daughter and her family. Mrs. Graham’s favorite pastimes are reading (no big surprise!) and playing video games (who knew?)
