Mrs. La Grua

2nd Grade

Kathy La Grua has been teaching at Grace for over ten years–preschool, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade! The youngest and only daughter of first generation Italian immigrants who passed through Ellis Island, she was born and raised in upstate New York but followed the sun to beautiful southern California. Believing that it is never too late with the Lord’s help and guidance to accomplish dreams, Kathy returned to school and completed her teaching degree at 51 years of age because she felt that she had always been called to be a teacher. During this process, Kathy was diagnosed with breast cancer, but this served to only strengthen her resolve to achieve her goal of teaching. Kathy is thrilled to have the distinct privilege of teaching in this caring and loving community of educators and students redeemed by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is dedicated to the profession of teaching and is committed to the needs, interests, and goals of her students and their families. She is fully aware of the far-reaching effect our words and actions have on others; she strives to always use her words and actions to inspire, to encourage, to build up and to make a positive difference in the lives of our Grace Lutheran family.

Kathy is married to Joe La Grua and has three children and a grandson Isaac by her oldest son, John. Jackie, her daughter, is a graduate of Grace and Cal State San Marcos. Joey, her youngest son, attemded Grace from pre school to eighth grade and is currently a student at Calvin Christian High School. Her favorite activities include spending time with family and friends, reading, watching Turner Classic Movies, working out and watching sports, especially son Joey’s basketball games!
